REDDAM STAFF AND STUDENTS PITCH IN FOR THE HOMELESS

21 July 2016

Starting off a new term on Mandela Day presented a great opportunity to motivate both staff and students to get involved in making a difference. This year Reddam House, Bedfordview chose to focus their efforts over a week dubbed “Grace and Gratitude Week” that aimed to collect 5000 cans of food for three different charities.
However, it did not end there as for every 250 cans collected, one of the teachers would spend the night sleeping in the cold on the school grounds to raise awareness for those that have no other option but to brave the cold every night.

Close to 5000 cans were collected by 21 July and our brave teachers spent the night out in the cold. During the evening the staff prepared over 1000 sandwiches that were donated the next morning. The sandwiches were donated to the Hope Project, Mother Teresa in Yeoville and numerous people that slept on the streets in Yeoville, Doornfontein and Hillbrow.

Many Reddam House students worked on projects over the weekend at different venues in Johannesburg. The efforts from the staff and students were a great finish to the “Grace and Gratitude Week”.

What’s more, on Thursday July 2016, Reddam House College Principal Stephen Hazley and Social Leadership Co-ordinator James Taylor, also of Reddam House, will participate in the CEO SleepOut at Kingsmead College.
