THE REDDAM HOUSE BEDFORDVIEW LEGACY GROWS

15 March 2018

Saturday, 10 March 2018 marked, not only Reddam House Bedfordview’s annual Open Day, but also the official opening and ribbon cutting of the Reddam House BCC Campus to mark the opening of a beautiful new double-storey education block.

How fitting it was, therefore, that long-time Bedfordview resident Mr Clarence Johnston, was on hand to cut the ribbon at the ceremony signifying the launch of Reddam House Bedfordview into a new phase.

Clarence Johnston, at the age of 94, is one of Bedfordview's oldest residents who clearly understands the importance of leaving a legacy in our children. He bought his residential ground in Bedfordview in 1947, the year before he married his wife, Hazel (91) and built his house in 1966. This year in October, they will have been married for 70 years!

Clarence’s son, Raymond, is a teacher at Reddam House and Clarence's grandson, Reddam House alumnus, Travis - an internationally recognised South African musician - also teaches bass guitar and drums at Reddam. Travis' younger brother Ryan, who sings like Frank Sinatra, matriculated from Reddam in 2012. Clarence's granddaughter, Kelly and great-grandson, Jayden are currently students in the College section of Reddam House.

Said Director and Headmistress of Reddam, Bedfordview Mrs Dalene Quayle: “The exponential growth of Reddam House Bedfordview across all three phases of the school is a humbling experience and it was a fitting occasion to celebrate and dedicate this remarkable new school building block.”

What’s more, Reddam House College has enjoyed a 100% Matric Pass rate since the inception of the high school and, in 2017, all Matric students achieved a noteworthy 100% University entrance. Just recently, Reddam House Bedfordview was ranked the fourth best school in Johannesburg – an achievement of which all at Reddam are very proud.
